Sheridan's Fleetwood Town job isn't finished yet

When Sheridan jetted in to Highbury to replace Uwe Rosler in February, he took on a team that was on an eight-game losing spree and hovering precariously around the drop zone.

They did fall into the bottom four for the first time under Sheridan, but after halting that losing run with back-to-back 1-1 draws against MK Dons and Plymouth Argyle, he ticked another box with a first league clean sheet since December thanks to a goalless draw at Charlton Athletic.

That blank at the Valley paved the way for his first win as Town boss at Rochdale three days later.

Those three points were quickly followed by the end of Town’s home hoodoo, with Northampton Town the first visiting team to lose at Highbury since Oxford United were beaten in October.

Now back-to-back Easter wins over AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers see Fleetwood head to Rotherham United brimming with confidence on the back of four straight wins and five straight clean sheets.

But Sheridan’s feet are still firmly on the ground and stressed that the season is not over yet.

But after reaching that 51-point tally it already looks like chairman Andy Pilley’s decision to bring in Sheridan was a touch of genius as he looks certain to add Fleetwood Town to Plymouth Argyle, Oldham Athletic and Newport County on the list of clubs he has saved from the drop.

Sheridan said: “Listen, we are doing very well.

“Whatever the number of points we have, we are just making it a little bit easier for ourselves and making it harder for teams around us.

“We just need to carry on what we are doing and we will be safe.”
