Fleetwood Town's prize guy Grant is stitched up

His final game of the season might have ended in a trip to hospital, but Fleetwood Town midfielder Bobby Grant expects to be raring to go by the time pre-season rolls around.

Grant sustained a deep gash to the forehead after a clash of heads with Jack Fitzwater in the first half of the 2-0 win over Walsall on Saturday.

He was brought off at half-time but was bandaged up for the post-match lap of the pitch, when Grant thanked the Cod Army and laughed with team-mates and fans.

The 27-year-old was gutted not to be able to pick up his Community player of the year prize at the annual awards ceremony which followed but he had to go to hospital for treatment.

The club confirmed Grant had the wound stitched and was fine.

His car-share buddy and fellow award winner Conor McAleny, who received the goal of the season accolade, said Grant now has plenty of time to nurse his wound ahead of pre-season in June.

McAleny said: “He went to hospital but he will be all right.

“It is the last game of the season anyway, so he’s got no need to be rushing back for weeks.”
