The Carabao Cup tie at home to Wigan Athletic launches the campaign on September 5, a week before Burton Albion visit Highbury for the League One opener.

Between those two Saturday games, the opening group matches in the EFL Trophy have been pencilled in.

Town are due to play 10 league games by the end of October, seven of them in that month alone. The visit to Accrington Stanley on October 20 starts a run of three successive Tuesday league games.

Town face 12 Tuesday fixtures in League One, not including cup-ties or any rearrangements.

Midweeks in September are being kept free for the second, third and fourth rounds of the Carabao Cup.

Fleetwood missed out in a nailbiting promotion race last season and another close battle is expected .

Hull City, back in the third tier for the first time in 16 seasons, visit Gillingham on the opening day. Charlton Athletic and Wigan, the other relegated sides, head to Crewe Alexandra and Ipswich Town respectively.

Sunderland kick-off their third League One season at home to Bristol Rovers, while beaten play-off finalists Oxford United head to Lincoln City. Portsmouth host Shrewsbury Town and Peterborough United visit Accrington.

Fleetwood striker Michael Fowler has joined Northern Premier League Premier Division side FC United of Manchester on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old joined Town in March last year after a scholarship at Burnley and has since had spells with Guiseley and Bamber Bridge.
