Wiles has overseen back-to-back goalless draws in the last week and is hoping to go one better today against Oxford United (3pm).

They face a resurgent Oxford side, whose poor start is firmly behind them after winning their last six league games and seven in all competitions.

The last time these two sides met was in October when Town won 2-0 with the U’s in the relegation zone.

With today’s hosts in a great run of form, Wiles is using them as inspiration with Town aiming to climb League One.

He said: “We’re nine points off the play-offs, and if you start picking points up, you’re right in there.

“In this league, everyone is taking points off everybody. If we just keep focusing on ourselves and making sure we do everything we can to get the three points, we’ll soon be stacking up those victories.

“Oxford are a good example of how things can change but we want to make sure that we are the example to other teams.

“Once you start stringing a couple of results together and three points, then look where Fleetwood could be in the table.

“We’ve been speaking recently in meetings about the areas that we could be better at.

“The players are fully aware, the staff are fully aware, it’s just down to us now to make sure that we can start picking up these victories to push us up the table, competing for the play-off spots which aren’t far away.

“You look at Oxford’s run and they’re in good form. We’ve watched the previous game against Rochdale (4-3 win) so we know what we’re going to be up against.

“For us, there’s no reason why we can’t go there and get the result that we’re after.

“That again goes down to that planning and preparation to set the team up in the best way that we feel, with the best selection, can upset Oxford and come away with the three points.”

With no development as yet in terms of Town announcing Joey Barton’s successor as head coach, Wiles is combining his role as interim boss with contemplating what his future may bring.

That may be as the man in charge, supporting any new boss or back in his previous role with the U18s.

He said: “That’s probably something that, when that opportunity or that conversation happens, we’ll have more clarity in what’s best for getting the best out of the players and me.

“Whatever department I’m in, I just want what’s best for the football club.

“Wherever they see me best fit, then we just keep working towards it to get results moving forward.

“I‘m ambitious and I want to be the best version I can be every single day, whether that’s working at first team level or working as a manager.

“I will take any opportunity that comes my way. First and foremost, I will make sure that I’m doing everything I can.

“I’m enjoying it and I’ll keep doing what I’m doing until I’m told otherwise.

“I’m learning all the time and I keep seeing different scenarios happening with players in training scenarios.

“I’m constantly trying to take everything in and take this club forward, with the best interest of the club.

“I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing, preparing the best way I can every day and making sure the players are fully prepared with all of the information required for each fixture they play.

“The big thing for us is the win. I’m doing everything that I possibly can to make sure we get that first victory on the board.”
