Fleetwood Town boss won't take safety for granted

Town head into the Easter weekend with a chance of passing 50 points if they can win at AFC Wimbledon this afternoon and beat Bristol Rovers at Highbury on Monday.

But despite their fine form since Sheridan’s arrival, the ex-Oldham Athletic and Notts County manager is not taking anything for granted.

They head to the capital on the back of three straight clean sheets and back-to-back wins but he stressed the need to remain focused.

Sheridan said: “I’ve only been here a month. I don’t get carried away because I know what is round the corner.

“I want us to improve and be better. It is important we keep on top of them.

“At the same time I want them to enjoy it while they are winning. It is funny when you don’t have a clean sheet for so long, then you have three on the spin.

“I’ve been a manager and you are playing to go second, third in the league; next minute you have lost eight or nine on the spin.

“It is football and it is just the way things go. You are up one minute, down the next; while I am here I am focusing on us staying in the division.

“We are playing well, we are a hard team to beat and we’ve got some talented players who can score something out of nothing.

“We still have to get the points we need to be safe; you can lose the game and you are back in the mix if results go against you.

“We have just got to concentrate on ourselves; hopefully results will not go the way other teams want them and hopefully we make more of an advantage on the team below.”

Sheridan will face off against a familiar foe in the dugout, namely former Bolton Wanderers team-mate and AFC Wimbledon assistant boss Neil Cox.

He said: “I know Neal Ardley (Dons boss) and Coxy, the assistant, well.

“As the home side they will be looking to win the game and they will know the importance of that.

“I’m expecting a tough game but at the same time we are going to pick up three points and that is our main objective.”

Fleetwood have a fully fit squad to choose from but Sheridan is not frightened of changing a winning team.

He said: “We have done well with 3-5-2 and with four at the back.

“I’ve got the players in there that can adjust and I have got players that have not been in the team that can slot in.

“They all know how I want us to play and what I want them to do.”
