Fleetwood Town boss has a message for his players ahead of Wigan Athletic meeting

Town head into the game on the back of some poor recent results but still have positives to take from those games, including the second half of the midweek defeat to MK Dons.

With that in mind, the interim boss (pictured) wants the Cod Army to look inwardly to find the recipe to pick up all three points.

He said: “We’ve looked at their formation, we’ve looked at previous results and performances, and there are a couple of key areas that we feel we can really exploit with some of the individuals we’ve got.

“It won’t be too much worrying about what Wigan can bring, but more focusing on what we can bring with the players out there. Let’s think about us a little more.

“If we can get out of the blocks in that first 15, 20 minutes, let’s take the lead, start dictating the game and let’s work really hard to get the three points.

“We’ve got the details about Wigan but a lot of the way that Steve Macauley and I have approached the players is about what we’re about and how we’re going to approach it.”

Today also sees Town able to name two goalkeepers in their matchday line-up, having only been able to field emergency loanee Joe Hilton recently.

Alex Cairns has recovered from coronavirus and Joel Coleman is back from his lengthy lay-off, though Wes Burns will be missing.

Today’s match also pits Wiles against an old friend in Latics boss Leam Richardson.

Wiles said: “They’ve got some good young players, they’ve got a real togetherness and I know Leam Richardson.

“I haven’t seen him for many, many years but I know of him and I can only imagine how he’ll have his team set up.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him but they’ve got honest players, they’re going to make it difficult for us to try and play and we have to make sure we’re better than them in that department.

“We want our football to take care of itself in the way that we feel we can exploit Wigan.

“It’s going to be a really intriguing game and it’s one we’re really looking forward to.

“Every fixture brings something different but we’ve just got to make sure we’re prepared right to win this game of football and get the goals we deserve. We then look to build on that.”
