The 34-year-old has made the move to Highbury after spending the last four years at Sheffield United.

He featured in the side that rose from League One to the Premier League in just three years, netting six goals in 36 games during the 2018/19 season which saw the Blades promoted into the Premier League.

Liverpool-born Duffy, who will wear the number eight shirt, has vast experience at League One level having also played for Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield and Burton Albion.

Duffy, whose career has also included a spell with Morecambe, spent last season on loan at Stoke City and then at Dutch top-flight side ADO Den Haag before being released by the Blades at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Having put pen to paper on his deal at Highbury, Duffy was a happy man.

He said: “I’m delighted to get it all done.

“I’ve been training with the lads for the last two weeks, they are a good bunch of lads. I know the manager (Joey Barton) and the staff so it was a perfect fit.

“It’s all about coming in and showing that I’m fit and ready to go, thankfully we sorted the deal today.

“The journey they have been on in the last 10 years, they have done brilliantly to get to where they are.

“It’s a club going in the right direction and I know a few of the players, which always helps.”

As Duffy admitted, he isn’t going into a dressing room full of strangers.

As well as knowing Town head coach Joey Barton, he reunites with a former team-mate in Paul Coutts.

He said: “I’ve had Couttsy on the phone to me trying to get me to come in, so everything was good really.

“Joey just wanted me to come in and enjoy my football and show the quality that I have and what I can bring to the team.

“He thinks it is something different to what we already have, which is good, because everybody has different qualities in the team – so he wanted me to come in and play the way I want to play and do well.”
