David Ball and Antoni Sarcevic fired Fleetwood Town into the area semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Ball fired in from close range after Antoni Sarcevic forced his way to the byline to put Town ahead.

Brad Potts hit the post for the Cumbrians but it was Fleetwood who dominated, Sarcevic and Gareth Evans both wasting good chances to extend their lead.

But Town did find the net after the break, Gareth Evans with a long ball from deep in the Fleetwood half, Sarcevic showing great control before launching a cheeky lob over the Cumbrians’ keeper.

Sarcevic could have added a third for Town, firing one across the face of goal and Junior Brown had a glorious chance to put the game beyond doubt late on, his shot hitting fellow Town man Jon Parkin.

Carlisle were completely outclassed by their League Two adversaries, offering little in front of goal as Town dominated, their passage to the next round thoroughly deserved
