Town were in need of a right back after Tom Edwards returned to Stoke City and usual stop-gap Wes Burns has suffered an injury.

Donacien joins the Cod Army on a loan deal until the end of the season and the club hope his registration will go through in time for tomorrow's League One clash with Wigan Athletic.

Having signed from Ipswich, and also spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley last season, the 27-year-old has experience at this level and was keen to travel to the Fylde coast after speaking with interim boss Simon Wiles, despite plenty of interest from elsewhere.

Donacien said: “It’s been good for me, I was packed and ready to go.

“I was ready to get up here and play.

“I’ve been ready to go and then when I was speaking to the manager, I wanted to come here.

“Speaking to him helped my decision so much.

“I got a really good vibe from him, how he wants me to play and how he sees the club going forward, that was enough for me.

“I’m 27 turning 28 this year, I haven’t played a lot of football this season, at the start of the year I played a couple of games but coming in I’ll hopefully lock down a place and play as many games as I can."

The Saint Lucian sees himself as a solid option at the back but wants to add more attacking output to his game and is looking forward to doing so with Fleetwood.

He said: “I’m a solid right back, so just defensively we’re going to try to keep a lot more clean sheets.

“And then there’s everything else I do, I’m going to work hard for the team.

“We want to be more secure but we want me to get up and down and be attacking.

“That’s what I want to do and that’s what I want to get better at, I want to be creating more chances."
