Fleetwood on Red alert for final against Liverpool

Fleetwood Development Squad boss Paul Murray says tonight's county cup final against Liverpool is a golden opportunity for his players to impress head coach Uwe Rosler.

Murray’s men play the Anfield young guns in the Molson Coors Senior Cup final at the County Ground in Leyland, kicking off at 7.30pm.

It’s four months since Fleetwood’s semi-final win over Blackburn in a penalty shoot-out and the waiting has all been worthwhile for Murray.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it immensely and so are all the lads. It’s a great occasion for us and a great test for us against the calibre of players they have.

Liverpool have won all their games and are top of the table and we are doing similarly. It’s a big night for Joe Maguire, who we signed from Liverpool.”

But Murray believes tonight could be a massive stepping stone for all his players.

He added: “I’m looking forward to putting these players up for the first team. Some of them have had a few nibbles but if they do well in a final the gaffer will hopefully take note.”

Kick-off tonight is at 7.30pm and admission on the night is £5 (£3 concessions).

Murray hopes as many Town supporters as possible will make the journey to cheer on his side.

“It’s a nice little stadium ... and it’s only a couple of minutes from my house,” he quipped.

Teenage keeper Billy Crellin was the hero of Town’s semi-final victory, saving two spot-kicks in the 4-3 shoot-out success at Ewood Park.
