The midfielder’s contract is up in June and after making 105 league appearances for Town since joining in 2013 he says it is time for a new challenge.

The 24-year-old has struggled with a thigh injury during the 2015-16 season and missed the final game of the campaign that saw Town beat Crewe 2-0 at Highbury and beat the drop.

The former Chester and Crewe player scored the only goal of the game as Town beat Burton Albion 1-0 in their League Two play-off final in 2014.

And the Hyde-based player thanked chairman Andy Pilley, the staff, players and the fans.

He said on Twitter: “(Fleetwood) thankyou!

“Firstly, the chairman for bringing me to the club and the chance to play full time league football again!

“To the staff and boys, (I) met some unbelievable lads who were a pleasure to work with over the last three years and finally you the Cod Army!

“You have stuck by us, especially this year. 99% of you stayed with us and we did it in the end.

“So Thankyou!

“It was a tough season this year and for myself!

“But it is football, it happens.”

And the midfielder hinted he will be joining another club in the next few weeks.

He said: “So now it was time for a fresh start and a new challenge!

“Something that I am buzzing for! Bring it on... #ExcitingFewWeeks”

The club confirmed Sarcevic’s imminent departure.

A spokesman said: “We would like to thank Antoni Sarcevic and we wish him well for the future.”
