Unlike on Saturday when his side let a two goal lead slip against Scunthorpe to eventually draw 2-2 Town turned the screw, shut up shop and passed United off the park in the closing stages to seal their first win of the new campaign.

It is Rosler’s first win as Town’s new head coach and he was happy to see his side manage the game better than they did against old Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander’s Iron side.

He said: “It was much better than against Scunthorpe how we managed when we were 2-0 up.

“We kept the ball and we were running down the clock for such a young team it was a very professional game.

“We are scoring goals regularly that is a big plus.

“We know that we have to work on one or two issues but it was a tactical game and I thought Oxford were asking questions of us especially with their midfield.

“I think we addressed it in the second half and I always believe football is a squad game and I think the three substitutions they not only kept the level but raised the level and I am very happy with the squad.”

And after drawing their opening two League One games and moving up to eighth in the table Rosler says the win has given them confidence ahead of the game at Bolton.

“I have experienced the same (when I was manager) at Leeds when you are playing well you have to play well and get the wins.

“When you are playing well and getting draws sometimes the confidence can disappear.

“The boys are playing very well, just the Leeds (penalty shoot-out EFL Cup) game for example and the Scunthorpe game when we were on our knees.

“But we got our rewards last night and I think that gives us a lot of confidence going into the Bolton game.”
