Fleetwood Town looked drained of confidence as their promotion push took a huge blow at the hands of Plymouth Argyle.

Town couldn’t build on a bright start, Gareth Evans coming closest to breaking the deadlock with a back post blast after Nathan Pond’s neat knock down.

But it was the visitors who took the lead, just after the 20 minute mark.

Reuben Reid had already been denied by Chris Maxwell when Durell Berry broke free down the right, his stinging cross turned home by the powerful Plymouth forward.

An injury to Steven Schumacher rocked Fleetwood who conceded again minutes after the restart.

Another second ball badly defended, Luke Young letting rip from 20 yards, his effort deflected into the bottom corner.

And Plymouth’s victory was sealed with time to spare, Maxime Blanchard diving to head in a third from a poorly defended corner before Conor Hourihane slammed home an unstoppable free kick from the edge of the box.
