Difficult to recall Ryan this season, says Uwe

Fleetwood Town head coach Uwe Rosler says it will be 'difficult' for Jimmy Ryan to feature again this season.

Town are 17 games unbeaten in League One and climbed to third with Saturday’s 3-0 win over Northampton.

Midfielder Ryan injured his foot in the 2-1 loss at Port Vale in November – Town’s last league defeat.

Rosler says it will be difficult for Ryan, who has since undergone surgery, to return with just 12 games of the campaign to go.

Skipper Nathan Pond and striker Wes Burns have joined Ryan and fellow midfielder Martyn Woolford in the treatment room.

Rosler again stressed his stance on not revealing players’ private medical records, but he did say that everyone apart from Ryan will return at some point this term.

He said: “It will be very difficult that we see Jimmy Ryan back on the pitch this season. Unfortunately I have to tell you that news.

“The rest of the players are all in contention. Next week or the week after?

“Like I said, I will never give you concrete information because of medical issues. When you go to the doctor, you are not coming out and telling all your mates what he said – it is private

“Apart from Jimmy Ryan, everyone will return. It is just a question of time.”

Rosler added that Town picked up some injuries from the Northampton clash. He would not specify who, though midfield duo Kyle Dempsey and George Glendon were both substituted.

He said: “We did not have the greatest week in training. We did not have the greatest week in terms of conditioning.

“On Thursday we needed to abandon our training (due to the high winds at Poolfoot Farm).

“On Saturday we had one or two more injuries. It was a real dangerous game for us.”

The German stressed that despite Town’s lofty league position he is not thinking about the possibility of automatic promotion – he is focusing on a good week of training and the next game a second-placed Scunthorpe.

Rosler said of the possibility of a top-two finish: “I don’t think about it.

“I only think about a good week training now, a better week than we had last week and concentrating on a Scunthorpe trip that will be very difficult.”
