Lyle Della-Verde admits he couldn’t have seen himself as a regular League One performer two months ago.

Released by Fulham having found it tough to break into the Craven Cottage side, he found himself on trial with Town, doing enough to convince boss Graham Alexander to take him on the pre-season tour to Germany.

Fast forward and the former Southend youngster has started the last four for Town - part of a midfield trio with Antoni Sarcevic and Jimmy Ryan. “I was out of contract, technically I didn’t have a club,” the 20-year-old told The Gazette

“I couldn’t have seen where I am now.

“I just kept myself fit, got my chance and I’ve taken it.

“It’s very positive for me to be with a good club and starting games.

“I’ve started the last four games and appeared in a couple more.

“I’m happy with how it’s going for myself.

“I just want to stay in the team for longer periods of the season.”

Della-Verde is quickly adjusting to life in the third-tier – in particular to the physical side of the game.

He said: “It’s been tough, a good competition but I like that. I’ve enjoyed it.

“Physically some teams have been more difficult than others.

“As the season goes on, I think we’ll get stronger as a team, cope with others better and show how strong we are ourselves.”
