Delfouneso calls on Blackpool to build upon their season

The Seasiders enjoyed another fine season under Gary Bowyer’s management, finishing in 12th place in the League One table.

Pool, fresh from their promotion from the fourth tier, defied the bookies’ odds to steer clear of the relegation zone all season.

Bowyer’s men finished the season strongly too, winning four of their last six games, giving hope of a bright future for the club despite the off-the-field issues.

Delfouneso, who has played his part with a career-best nine-goal haul, says the club can’t afford to get complacent despite another successful campaign.

He said: “I know there’s loads of things going on which we’re not in control of but we’re building and there’s been progress over these last two years, there’s no doubt about it.

“Last season with the promotion and this season again, we were just a couple of positive results away from achieving even more. Who knows what could have been?

“So we’ve made progress and we can be happy with that, but we know we can do more.

“I think it’s testament to the gaffer and his staff for the way he’s brought this team together and getting us playing good football. I don’t think we’ve been outplayed at any point this season.

“But we can’t stop here, we’ve got to keep trying to build and hopefully we can do that.

“On a personal level I know I’ve got to build and I’ve got to improve for next season, and I’ll be ready and raring to go.”

Saturday’s last game of the season came at the worst time possible for Delfouneso, who was finishing the campaign in fine form.

He netted five goals in five games in April, which saw him nominated for the EFL’s League One player of the month award only to be beaten by Wigan Athletic’s Will Grigg.

He also netted his first league hat-trick in Blackpool’s 5-0 demolition of Bradford City at the start of the month.

Delfouneso’s goals helped Blackpool pick up 13 points from their six games in the month of April, the Seasiders scoring 14 goals in the process.

The 27-year-old also recently collected Blackpool’s PFA Community Champion award for the 2017/18 season.

The forward was selected as the recipient of the award by Blackpool FC Community Trust, who felt his contributions off the pitch were worthy of the accolade.

Delfouneso has visited local primary schools, supported Trust events and also pledged to raise awareness for Kidney Research UK over the last 12 months.
