Daniel ready to answer Blackpool's emergency call again

Colin Daniel has sent out a message to Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer that he is more than happy to fill in at left-back if required.

The 28-year-old, normally deployed in midfield, was brought into the defence after just 20 minutes on Saturday at Crawley, where Pool went on to lose 1-0.

The enforced change came about when Andy Taylor was taken off the field with a bleeding nose, which turned out to be broken.

Daniel said he was satisfied with his performance in his new role.

“If the manager wants me to play there, then I’m more than happy to,” he said.

“I thought I did all right. I need to improve in some areas but I think that will come if I’m needed to play there again in the near future.

“I’m more than capable of playing at left-back and I’ve played there plenty of times in the past.”

Daniel has been in and out of the Blackpool side since joining in the summer following his release by Port Vale.

He has been forced to watch on from the substitutes’ bench since the defeat at Colchester on September 10, despite notching his first two goals for the club in the win at Yeovil a week earlier.

The former Macclesfield and Mansfield player almost provided an assist with his first touches of the match against Crawley, when his cross fizzed across the six-yard box.

But Crawley snatched all three points with a controversial second-half goal – Blackpool appealed for a foul on goalkeeper Dean Lyness only for Mark Connolly to nod in from close range.

Daniel added: “It’s frustrating because I don’t think they were better than us.

“We had the better chances but we were just unlucky not to put the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately they did but I think it was a foul on the goalkeeper.

“We didn’t get the decision, though, so it is just one of those things. We had the better chances in the first half, and we were really disappointed and frustrated not to come away with a point.”

Attention now turns to tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy tie against Bolton Wanderers at the Macron Stadium (7pm kick-off), a game Daniel is keen to start.

“If the manager wants me to fill in at left-back again I’m more than happy to,” he said. “It’s not my natural position but I’m more than capable of playing there if the gaffer wants me to.

“We are going to try to get the win in the cup and take that into the league game against Cambridge on the weekend.

“It was a good point at Crewe, then a good win against a good Portsmouth team, so we’re frustrated as we thought we were more than good enough to get three points at Crawley.”
