Coasters set sights on Spireite

At times of late, injuries have meant that the Coasters have been without three centre-halves, a situation that has decided Dave Challinor to make a move for the 20-year-old.

Maguire has made four appearances for the Spireites to date; his brother Harry is on the books of Hull City and has played regularly in the Premier League this season.

Challinor was hoping to tie up a deal for the player in time for him to figure for the Vanarama National League One pacesetters at Brackley tomorrow.

He said: “Laurence has a good pedigree and has experience of playing in the Chesterfield first team.

“One of the reasons we couldn’t sort it out earlier is that our chief executive and their secretary have been on holiday at the same time, but hopefully it will be sorted in time for Saturday.”

When Fylde visit Brackley, it will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs and the Coasters have yet to register a win against them.

The two teams drew 1-1 at Mill Farm in August prior to them facing each other in the FA Trophy; the first tie also ended in a 1-1 draw with Brackley prevailing emphatically in the reply by 4-0.

Brackley drew 0-0 with Alfreton on Tuesday night and Challinor believes that they have been hamstrung somewhat by the amount of cup matches, both FA Trophy and FA Cup, where one of their opponents were Blackpool, losing 1-0 in the second round.

Challinor said: “Brackley have a good squad and they have a side that is well organised in which everybody knows their job and what to do. They have a small squad and it can catch up with you if you have runs and replays in the FA Cup and FA Trophy as they have this season.”

Despite a 5-0 loss to Salford and only drawing with Telford, Coasters still have a seven-point lead.

Main rivals, second-placed Kidderminster Harriers, with two matches in hand, visit fourth-placed Chorley.
