The move for Kay comes at a time when defender Dan Jones completed his loan period from Grimsby Town and has returned to the League Two club.

Kay moved to Championship club Barnsley from AFC Fylde just over a year ago.

Kay is a midfielder, but he can also play in defence.

The 20-year-old has played one Championship game for the Oakwell club since his move.

Coasters' boss Challinor is delighted to get the player back to the end of the season, to aid the Coasters' promotion push - they are currently 11 points clear of their nearest pursuers and take on one of their close rivals Kidderminster Harriers at Mill Farm on Saturday.

Challinor said: "Josh has done well since going to Barnsley and has got some Championship experience.

"He is not an out-and-out defender, but he can play at full-back and we are excited to get him back to help our promotion push."

Jones is required by Grimsby for their end of season run-in.

Challinor said: "We knew the situation when we signed Dan that he was coming to us to get games and that Grimsby would more than likely want him back."

The Coasters are likely to be in the market for other new recruits prior to the registration deadline on March 23.
