Chaos at Blackpool could galvanise the players, says Shrewsbury boss John Askey

Pool remain without a manager following this month’s shock resignation of Gary Bowyer, leaving Terry McPhillips to take charge of his third game in charge this Saturday.

The club is still in chaos off the pitch too, but Askey says that could galvanise the squad and engineer a team spirit among the players.

He told the Shropshire Star: "They've lost their manager, the club's in a bit of disarray as we all know but the Barnsley game would have given them a bit of a lift.

"It'll be similar to the games we've played. A game we can win but also a game we can lose.

“If we play to our capacity and cut out the silly mistakes then we've got a great chance.”

When asked if this game could be a chance to kick Pool while they’re down, Askey replied: "It depends how the game's going. If you can score a goal early on then you can capitalise.

"But what happens sometimes is that it might be in disarray behind the scenes but usually as a team it pulls you together, as I've found in the past.

"Whatever goes on outside the football side you can use to your own advantage. It might be that it galvanises them and doesn't split them.

"They've got one or two decent players who have played at a higher level. Lads up front who in the past have got goals.

"But I'll concern myself with ourselves and worry about ourselves. If we can play then we can cause anybody problems.”

Askey, who guided Macclesfield Town to the National League title last season, has overseen three straight defeats since arriving at Shrewsbury where he took over from Paul Hurst.
