Business as usual for Blackpool players

Blackpool forward Joe Dodoo has opened his account for the campaign, and after tasting league victory is hungry for more as Pool prepare to welcome Accrington Stanley to Bloomfield Road.

Dodoo told The Gazette it is business as usual for the players despite the off-the-pitch rumblings over who will be the permanent boss.

And after netting the second against Coventry in Terry McPhillips’ first league win since taking temporary charge from Gary Bowyer, the forward says the agenda has not changed.

He said: “It is still the same focus – we have to go on and win.

“We just need to put games to bed, score goals and get games over and done with as soon as possible.

“We will approach the game the same way, start the way we did and go out there, fight, earn the right to play and we have to keep the ball on the floor and try and play football.”

And Dodoo hopes Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Coventry is the foundation to kick-start their season.

He said: “It is important because we had drawn twice, lost and won the League Cup game but we are a good side. We just need to get going.

“A win can obviously set the foundation for us to go on and do more.

“The first win is always important, everyone is happy and hopefully we can build from there.

“We played really well and I thought we dominated the game. But it is one of those where you dominate but if you don’t score you don’t win, so it was good to get the two goals.”

Mark Cullen opened the scoring and Dodoo netted late on.

And the Rangers loanee reflected on his first strike since joining the club this summer.

He said: “It is just one of those where you have to be alert. Obviously they tried a couple of clearances, fell a bit short and I gambled on one.

“It went over and I managed to get on the end of it and put it in.”

And after his first strike, Dodoo hopes it is the first of many but he would not reveal the target for his loan spell.

He said: “As a striker you have to set goals and do it. But that target I will keep to myself!”
