Bowyer's belief in Blackpool's approach

Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer says he has no plans to change the way his side play despite a disappointing start to the league season.

His men sit at the wrong end of the table ahead of today’s home match against Cambridge United and on the back of two straight defeats.

But Bowyer remains satisfied with his side’s performances.

“I think we’re playing well and creating lots of chances,” he said. “Even in the games we have not been particularly great, like the second half at Crewe where we weren’t very good, we have still created a number of chances.

“While we’re creating chances I’m confident the group are playing the right way. It’s just about converting them and eradicating these silly mistakes at the other end which are costing us.”

Despite Pool’s wastefulness in front of goal, Bowyer refused to lay the blame at the door of his strikers.

He added: “The chances we’ve had have been evenly spread amongst the group.

“We’ve got to keep sticking with our beliefs and all we can do is work very, very hard on the training ground to make it right.

“No one is going to give it to us and we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve just got to keep working.

“When you analyse where we’re out it’s just those small margins. Last week we thought there was a foul on the goalkeeper but it’s those things that are going against us.

“If the lads were feeling sorry for themselves or low on confidence, they wouldn’t have played the way they did against Bolton where we created 15 goalscoring opportunities.”

Despite sitting 16th in the table, Blackpool are just one of seven teams who boast a positive goal difference.

“We put that down to a lot of hard work and the way we play, where we defend from the front,” Bowyer said.

“There are seven teams with a positive goal difference and we’re one of them, while the other six are in the top seven which just shows you we’re not far off.

“But we can’t keep saying it. When we click, we’re going to be unstoppable. If we had come away from Crawley with a clean sheet and a 0-0, or maybe even nick it 1-0, then we’d be talking about a different message.”
