Bowyer: We came with a game plan

The Seasiders clinched all three points courtesy of a dramatic last minute penalty from Jordan Flores, just minutes after Mark Cullen had missed a penalty of his own.

The win sees Blackpool climb back into the top seven thanks to their vastly superior goal difference, with three games now remaining.

“I thought we came here with a game plan and tactically we set up very well, first half especially," Bowyer said.

“We came and frustrated them and nullified their diamond and created one or two opening ourselves. I’ve not seen Pottsy’s one back yet but it looked really, really close when he’s gone through and scored.

“I thought we grew into the game in the second half and we had some belief in us. They’ve got promoted Doncaster and they’re a good team and I think they’ll win the league. We’ve come and been really good against them.

“But obviously the sending off changes the course of the game and the outlook of the game but I think we showed great patience after that.

“We didn’t get too frustrated and we put in a couple of great balls, then there’s the crazy couple of minutes at the end. We’re good at that, aren’t we?”

Bowyer opted to stick with three centre backs when Doncaster went down to ten men - a decision that paid dividends at the death.

“For me it wasn’t too difficult to resist the temptation to take a defender off," he added.

“Richie (assistant manager Richie Kyle) wanted to take one off but the way we were playing and how we wanted to get the ball, the three centre halves made that happen.

“We were able to switch the play and use the diagonal ball. If we went to a back four we wouldn’t have the centre halves as wide as they were.

“Hence getting the penalty and hence getting the balls into the box.”
