Bowyer wants clean bill of health for Blackpool at Plymouth

Gary Bowyer hopes his Blackpool team's promising start to the season will not be undermined by illness in the camp.

The Seasiders head to Plymouth Argyle this evening (7.45pm) seventh in League One and unbeaten in five games.

Bowyer’s players drew 0-0 at Scunthorpe United on Saturday but the circumstances were less than ideal.

Having already ruled out Sean Longstaff with a sore Achilles, Bowyer also had to do without Nathan Delfouneso because of illness.

Delfouneso wasn’t the only member of the travelling party under the weather. Bowyer was also unwell as were some of the other players.

He said: “We had illness and sickness within the squad on Saturday morning, so we had to make changes. We hope it’s not a bug but a few of us have felt it. On Thursday and Friday, there were one or two.

“We will recover and get on with it, but what it showed is that whatever is put in front of us this group will have a right good go, no matter who has the shirt.”

Keeper Ryan Allsop only had one serious save to make as Scunthorpe’s attempts at goal were largely half-chances sent off target.

Bowyer added: “Ryan made a good save from a header in the first half but after that the organisation in front of him from the back four and midfield five was terrific.”

Longstaff was near to playing at Glanford Park, so it is hoped he will be able to feature at Home Park.
