Bowyer wants Blackpool to keep their momentum going

Blackburn, currently five points clear at the top of League One, have won four of their last five games and have only been beaten once in 2018.

But Blackpool enjoyed a positive spell themselves in February, going five games unbeaten which included the two impressive wins on the road.

That, Bowyer believes, should stand the Seasiders in good stead for today’s game.

“We’re going to the team top of the table, but we go into it unbeaten in February and on the back of two very good performances and results away from home at Wigan and Portsmouth,” Bowyer said.

“To go and win back-to-back while keeping two clean sheets away from home shows the players are playing with a lot of confidence and they’re looking forward to the next fixture.

“The aim is to keep the run going and try and win the football match. What we’ve got to do is maintain that for the remaining 12 games.”

Following the wins at Wigan and Portsmouth, Bowyer was keen to point out the benefits of playing on a good surface.

That’s something that Bowyer believes could once again suit them at Ewood Park this afternoon.

He added: “I think the pitch will certainly suit what we’ve got in the dressing room, which is an honest bunch of footballers that like to pass the football and play.

“When you can get the surfaces that allow for that, it obviously helps.”

Blackburn is a club Bowyer knows extremely well, having spent 13 years there including three as manager.

But, while he admits he is looking forward to seeing some old faces, the Blackpool boss says his only focus is on the game.

“We played them last season so it’s not like it’s the first time I’m going back,” he said.

“But from my point of view I always had a good relationship with those supporters.

“They were very good when they came here for the fixture at Bloomfield Road earlier in the season.

“So it’ll be good to go and see some people that I know who are still there from my time, although there’s not many now.

“But then it’s onto kick-off at 3pm and it’s a game of football.”
