Bowyer: Players must move on from superb March form

Gary Bowyer says his Blackpool side must put their superb March form behind them as they prepare for the final run-in.

Bowyer is likely to pick up the League Two manager of the month award for March, having guided the Seasiders to five wins from their six league games, drawing the other one.

But their nine-game unbeaten run will be put to the test when they face a Luton Town side on Saturday who are just one position below them in the league table – with the two sides only separated by goal difference.

“We’ve spoken all along about only focusing on the next game ahead and that’s exactly what we’ve done this week,” Bowyer said.

“We’ve just got to keep looking forward. That’s it now, March has gone.

“We’re now into April and we’ve got to keep pushing it’s as simple as that.”

The Seasiders weren’t at their best against Hartlepool United last week but found a way to battle to a hard-fought 2-1 win.

That was a pleasing aspect for Bowyer but the Pool boss is still demanding more from his players.

He added: “We’ve got momentum with us and we’re playing with confidence and finding a way to win football matches. That was the most pleasing thing about Saturday because we didn’t play particularly well but we still found a way to win.

“We’ve got to keep that going but still get back to the performances we were putting in prior to the Hartlepool game.”

Pool have no fresh injury doubts ahead of Saturday’s trip to Kenilworth Road while Kyle Vassell is said to be doing well after making an early return.

“We’re injury-free from last week which is always pleasing,” Bowyer said. “Obviously people had knocks and bumps but we’re delighted with how everyone came through the game.

“Kyle Vassell coming through it was an important one for us as well. He did what he needed to do after the game but he’s trained this week and he’s fine. There’s been no after effects and that’s brilliant news for him and us.

“It’s like anybody in any team, you want all your players fit and this moment in time, touch wood, we’re in a good position where I have massive selection problems because everyone is fit.”
