Bowyer; My Blackpool team is full of surprises

Gary Bowyer's Blackpool team might not only be surprising the rest of League One but also the man himself.

The Seasiders have picked up 14 points from their opening seven games and now head into this afternoon’s home clash with in-form Oxford fifth in the table on the back of a fine 3-1 win at Plymouth on Tuesday.

Pool made 13 new signings over the summer but have already clicked as a team as they prepare to host a U’s side who are two points behind in eighth and, like the Seasiders, have lost only once in the league this season.

Bowyer said: “People can be surprised. This team surprises me some times.

“At Plymouth on Tuesday, when they equalised we got a reaction from the players and we went on the win 3-1.

“The team has gelled so quickly and we have built a foundation. We just need to keep it up.”

Blackpool are unbeaten at home going into the clash.

Their home form was a cornerstone of their promotion success last term and Bowyer is pleased that is continuing.

He said: “Our aim is to be as competitive as we can be this season. The home form has continued from last season.

“We know a club like Oxford will want to try to stop us here but we are full of confidence and the goals are being shared.

“We don’t rely on just one person for our goals, which is important.

“Throughout the season we will need that and hopefully it will continue.”
