Bowyer: More to our results than meets the eye

The Seasiders failed to extend their unbeaten run on Tuesday night as they were downed by a late goal against Mansfield Town.

It means Blackpool’s league record now reads as six wins, six draws and six defeats.

The last time Blackpool tasted defeat in the league – the 2-1 reversal at Accrington Stanley last month – they embarked on a six-match unbeaten run that was ended by Mansfield during midweek.

Despite their inconsistency, Bowyer says there has been more to his side’s results than meets the eye.

“There have been factors in those draws and defeats that have been out of our control,” he said.

“But overall we’re getting there. It’s a long season and there’s going to be speed bumps along the road and it’s about how we recover.

“So far, whenever there’s been a little speed bump, we’ve recovered well. After the Accrington game we showed a tremendous recovery and went on a great run.

“Now we’ve got to start again and I think that will happen throughout the season.”

Blackpool return to Bloomfield Road this afternoon to face a Newport County side who sit rock bottom of the League Two table.

The game presents Blackpool with a great opportunity to get back to winning ways and build on their recent home form, which has seen them unbeaten in five games.

“Our home form has been a major plus for us and we’ve got to try and replicate that on Saturday,” Bowyer added.

The Pool boss also paid tribute to his centre-back pairing of Tom Aldred and Clark Robertson, despite the duo combining with a calamity of mistakes for Danny Rose’s late winner for Mansfield.

He added: “I thought the two of them were superb all night with the amount of balls they had to head away and everything they had to kick and chase after.

“It was just unfortunate we’re now talking about that because up to then, their performance was great and you’d probably have one of them down as man of the match.

“It wasn’t a great game overall. I thought the ball got the life kicked out of it. It was a little frustrating we didn’t pass it as well as we have been doing.”
