Bowyer: Let's end jinx with two wins on the spin

When Bowyer’s men beat Doncaster 4-2 last Saturday, it was the first time they had come from behind to win since a 2-1 success at Watford in March 2013.

Late goals from Tom Ince and Gary MacKenzie cancelled out Christian Battocchio first-half opener in that Vicarage Road Championship clash.

Now Bowyer wants his men to build on that milestone by completing back-to-back league wins for the first time since the start of April.

Again Doncaster were involved as Pool won 1-0 at the Keepmoat five days before a 2-0 home win over Southend (Pool managed only one point and one goal from the five games which followed as they were relegated again).

All Pool’s league wins under Bowyer so far have been followed by a defeat and the ex-Blackburn boss said: “It is a challenge to go and get back-to-back results, which we have not done so far.

“I’m led to believe Saturday was the first time in three and a half years that we have come back from a goal down to win.

“So we have now set them the challenge to go and get back-to-backs for the first time.”

“Bowyer will be coming up against a familiar foe at Cheltenham in Gary Johnson, a man he last faced in the dugout in the Championship in April 2014, when Johnson’s Yeovil side played out a goalless draw at Ewood Park.

Bowyer said: “I know Gary Johnson from when he was manager of Yeovil. That tells you what Gary is capable of with his teams and Cheltenham will be exactly the same.”

The Robins are point and two places below Pool in 16th place, but are unbeaten in six and have won their last two league games against Crawley and Grimsby.

Bowyer added: “It will be tough. They are at home and are on a good run themselves. We just have to try to perform the way we have been doing and get the result.”
