Bowyer appeals to Blackpool players: Don't lose your nerve

Blackpool remain rooted on 47 points with six games of the season to play after their back-to-back defeats over Easter.

Bowyer, talking after Pool’s loss at Oldham yesterday, says his side can’t afford to rely on other results going their way between now and the end of the season.

The Seasiders manager said: “I can’t look at people behind us. I’ve got to keep looking forward and at ourselves.

“We’ve got six games left and for us to be relying on other people would be ridiculous. We’ve got to just take care of ourselves.

“We’ve got to stick together, stay calm and go about it the right way. To be fair, for a lot of parts of the game, we did that.

“We’ve just got to see it all the way through.”

Things looked to be going Blackpool’s way at half- time, when they were 1-0 ahead courtesy of Kyle Vassell’s 10th goal of the season, while results elsewhere were going their way.

But Oldham fought back in the second half and took all three points thanks to goals from Jack Byrne and Eoin Doyle, lifting Richie Wellens’ side out of the bottom four.

Bowyer added: “The day promised so much with how we were in the first half in terms of going in with the lead.

“But I just told them they’ve got to keep doing their jobs. The two times we haven’t done our jobs properly, it’s cost us.

“Two minutes into the second half I turned to Andy Todd and said to him ‘what have I just said to the players’?

“Because we were talking about going on the front foot to go and get the second goal, but we didn’t seem to execute that well enough.

“There isn’t much in the game but we didn’t threaten their goal enough.

“Oldham started brightly as you would expect, but we knew that was coming.

“But we grew into the game and looked to play our way out, as we did.

“We then score another very good goal. It was great build-up play, a great cross and a great finish.

“But I felt we were carrying one or two. A couple of them were nowhere near what we said. You’ve just got to do your jobs I’m afraid.

“What’s the difference between the two teams? You could argue (Eoin) Doyle is coming down from the Championship - he’s another we tried to get - but we couldn’t compete financially.

“But you’ve still got to do your job and to concede the way we did at the end was really, really disappointing.”
