Blackpool's Redshaw battling on in '˜constant pain'

The former Morecambe striker has battled through the pain barrier in recent months with shin splints, which forced him to miss the whole of last month’s action.

Redshaw is back in Pool’s starting 11 now and accepts he will be playing in pain until the summer.

He said: “I’m not 100 per cent fit yet. It’s something which will take a while.

“I need complete rest for it to disappear completely, so it’s a case of managing it from week to week.

“Once I get to the summer I’ll be able to have a good rest and hopefully it will clear up.

“It’s a constant pain really. It’s just there when you run. After games, I can be in agony the next day.

“The club have been good with me really in terms of training. I’ve been able to off-load it a little bit.

“It’s about managing it and it’s working well at the moment. I just pop an anti-inflammatory and just get on with it – the adrenaline helps.

“It’s mainly the day after when it starts to get sore.”

Despite failing to find the net in his last four games, Redshaw has made a big impact alongside new strike partner Danny Philliskirk.

And he says there’s a real confidence around Bloomfield Road ahead of tomorrow’s visit of high-flying Gillingham.

Redshaw added: “The lads are full of confidence at the moment but we aren’t getting carried away.

“It’s all about picking up points game by game and getting away from the bottom four.

“Gillingham have been up there all season. That means they are doing something right but we are confident.

“The idea is to pick up points tomorrow to take us into the next three games against teams around us.”

Redshaw was among the substitutes when Pool lost 2-1 away to Justin Edinburgh’s Gills in September, when the Seasiders competed well until Bradley Dack’s late winner.

Redshaw thinks Pool are a totally different proposition now ... and owe Gillingham one. “I remember that game well,” he said.

“We went into it with one up top and we broke well a few times on the counter.

“We could have picked up the points but we conceded late on, which happened a lot earlier in the season, but we’ve changed that now. I think it will be different this time.”
