The 25-year-old landed awkwardly after saving from former Blackpool loanee Uche Ikpeazu in the second half and suffered what is thought to be an ankle injury.

Speaking after the match, Pool boss Gary Bowyer revealed Lyness was taken to hospital.

"It's not good, I'm afraid," he said.

"Dean's off to A&E as we speak so fingers crossed for him."

The injury is another blow for Blackpool, who are already without their number one 'keeper Sam Slocombe - although he is said to be close to a return.

Slocombe suffered a groin injury during the 1-1 draw at Crewe and Lyness has taken his place ever since.

However, Lyness' injury did provide an opportunity for youngster Myles Boney to make his first ever league appearance for the club.

Bowyer added: "I thought Myles was brilliant when he came on, he looked assured and his kicking was good.

"That's from the confidence that he's had playing in the EFL Trophy, and he'd have had another game if it wasn't for the rules."
