Blackpool sign former Arsenal defender Marc Bola

The 23-year-old, who was out of contract at Boundary Park, has signed a two-year deal at Bloomfield Road with the option of a further year.

Because he is under the age of 24, the club have had to agree a compensation fee with his former club.

Capped by Northern Ireland on five occasions, the right back has also represented his country at various youth levels prior to full senior recognition.

The brother of former Fleetwood Town defender Conor McLaughlin, the defender originally joined Oldham from Liverpool in 2016.

A versatile right-back, who is also capable of playing on the wing, McLaughlin departs Oldham having made 61 appearances in two seasons.

He becomes the club's 12th signing of the summer and the second of the day, following the arrival of former Arsenal defender Marc Bola earlier today.

McLaughlin said: "It’s been on the cards for a while and I’m delighted to finally get it all done.

"I’m looking forward to getting into training now and seeing all the lads.

"I talked to the manager and I got a really good feel for the club when I was speaking to him. I’m just delighted to come here.”

This might not be the end of Pool's business this week, with Gary Bowyer still confident of sealing a return for Armand Gnanduillet.

The arrivals of McLaughlin and Bola, who are both capable of playing at right back, could signal the end of Kelvin Mellor's time at Bloomfield Road.

Mellor is now a free agent after his contract expired at the beginning of July.
