The game is a rematch after Preston ran out 2-0 winners at Bamber Bridge last year.

Blackpool will host this year’s tie at Thornton Cleveleys FC, who are based at New Bourne Park, kicking off at 2pm.

It is hoped the match will become an annual event and the sides will battle it out to win the coveted Knights’ Trophy in memory of Sir Stanley Matthews and Sir Tom Finney.

Among the former Blackpool players taking part will be Andy Preece, Brian Butler, Carl Lancashire, Simon Wiles, Richie Wellens, Danny Coid, Phil Robinson, Alan Hughes, Steve Longworth, Andy Forsyth, Gareth Evans and Jason Jarrett.

Former players will also be supporting the event as spectators.

The match is being hosted by the Blackpool FC Formers Players Association and admission is by way of a donation.

No official charity has been chosen to benefit but funds raised will be donated to former players who have fallen by hard times.
