When Blackpool, Fleetwood Town and their League One rivals will next vote on the fate of the season

It was understood that clubs had agreed to hold talks on Monday after failing to reach a unified decision on how to proceed with the campaign at a meeting on Friday.

But a formal meeting will be pushed back until after the EFL board meets as scheduled on Wednesday, according to Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry.

Speaking to our sister paper the Peterborough Telegraph, Fry feels there is no chance that the season will be declared null and void.

Fry said: “Promotions will be granted. There will be play-offs, but as yet the League One clubs can’t agree on the way forward.

“The EFL board are meeting on Wednesday. They will then present the possible scenarios to the clubs and we will then vote on them later in the week, probably on Friday.

“My fear is the EFL deciding League One should follow what League Two have done, but that would be wrong as [EFL chairman] Rick Parry has said the Championship, League One and League Two clubs can make their own decisions.

“One thing for sure is we won’t vote to try and scrap relegation like League Two clubs have. There is no sporting merit in that at all.”

The EFL board wish to see promotion and relegation take place, along with a play-off campaign in each of their three divisions.

Wednesday’s meeting will likely see the board address suggestions of how to decide such matters, including an expanded play-off campaign in League One put forward by Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

The 23 clubs in League One are split on how they wish to see the season completed, with at least half a dozen determined to push for the remaining fixtures to take place.

The EFL board will be looking to bring about compromise between the clubs in order to secure a definitive way forward - as League Two clubs provided by unanimous voting to end the campaign at its current point.
