KEITH Southern says he hopes the authorities take John Terry to task if the England captain is found guilty of making a racist remark.
The Seasiders midfielder is careful to point out that Terry – caught on camera shouting at QPR defender Anton Ferdinand – is innocent until proven otherwise.
Terry strenuously denies the allegations but Southern believes the FA should hit the Chelsea defender hard if he has done wrong.
Southern said: “John Terry seems to find himself in bits and pieces of trouble year in, year out.
“If he has said this, does it really surprise me? Not really, because anything he tends to do doesn’t seem to be the norm somehow.
“If he hasn’t done it, then great; if he has, I’m sure he’ll be found out because we have so many cameras these days you can’t really get away with anything.
“If he has done something wrong, I hope they take him to task.
“It’s not what we need in the game. There is absolutely no place for racism. In the 21st century it shouldn’t exist.
“Half the time players from different clubs are so friendly anyway. It wouldn’t surprise me if Terry goes out socialising with Anton Ferdinand, so to even get into that kind of argument is ridiculous in my eyes. But it will probably blow over and sort itself out in time.”
The FA has launched an investigation into the incident as well as the claims by Manchester United defender Patrice Evra that he was racially abused by Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
