Sunderland fan Chris Basham can’t wait for a crack at rivals Newcastle today.
Blackpool’s midfield man was born in the North East and is a regular on the terraces at the Black Cats’ Stadium of Light.
So when Pool’s friendlies were announced, you can imagine his excitement.
“I’m obviously from the Sunderland side of the water,” he said.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to play against Newcastle, and for the rest of the lads too.
“They are a Premier League side and I think we need to step up as a team to face them.
“I’m really looking forward to it.”
Pool start the season a week today with a trip to newly promoted Doncaster.
And Basham hopes Pool will be ready for what he expects to be a tough test.
“A win against Newcastle would give us a boost going into the season.
“A good result on Sunday will give us the confidence to go into the Barnsley game the following week.”
Tickets remain available for the final pre-season game, kick-off 3pm.
A crowd of around 8,000 is expected, with as many as 2,500 making the trip from the North East.
It will be the first chance for fans to see new signings Michael Chopra, Bobby Grant and hopefully Steve Davies in action on home soil.
Tickets are available on the day, but fans must buy a ticket and will not be able to pay on the door.
They are priced at £15 for adults and £5 for concessions.
