Blackpool are today waiting on news about an injury to Steven Davies.
The striker limped out of Tuesday’s 3-2 reserve win against Morecambe after scoring the winner in front of watching boss Jose Riga.
After so little game time it’s not surprising Davies felt the effects and missed training due to a calf strain yesterday.
It’s hoped the injury isn’t major and the striker will be fit enough to travel with the squad to London tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s clash with Millwall.
The injury highlights what boss Riga means when he says his players aren’t yet ready.
“Two months ago I said we weren’t ready, and we still aren’t now,” Riga said.
“We need to get to the international break so I can properly assess the fitness and capabilities of each player. We weren’t able to do this in pre-season, then I’ll know exactly the level of each player.”
This is the first full week Riga has been able to work with his players after an opening which included two mid-week games.
And the boss said it’s a huge bonus.
“I’m happy we have a full week to prepare for the next game. We need to work hard physically, but we also need to prepare the players for the coming game.
“It’s not only about patterns of play, it’s also about getting the players fit.”
