CRAIG Cathcart’s Achilles problem forced him to miss yesterday’s friendly at Sheffield United.

The defender has been troubled by the injury throughout pre-season and was left out of the 21-man squad at Bramall Lane.

The problem isn’t serious, but with the new season just days away the medical team aren’t taking any risks.

Cathcart will undergo further treatment this week and is hopeful of being available for the Championship opener at Hull on Friday.

New signing Gerarda Bruno didn’t feature in Sheffield either but the winger from Liverpool is set to start tonight’s final pre-season game at Lancaster City (7.45pm).

Pool’s team will be largely made up of youngsters and trialists, with youth team star Liam Tomsett and Paul Bignot, signed from Newport County, also involved.
