BLACKPOOL are closing in on Barnsley defender Scott Wiseman.

Reports claim the 27-year-old is set for talks at Bloomfield Road after it was reported a fee has been agreed for the right-back.

Wiseman arrived at Oakwell in 2010, following then manager Keith Hill from Rochdale. The Humbersider has since made 62 appearances for the Tykes and recently attracted interest from Southampton and Reading.

Wiseman is one of many additions Michael Appleton is hoping to make to his squad before Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic, though the Pool boss admits he has been frustrated in the first week of the transfer window.

Appleton said: “There’s no news about arrivals at the minute. It’s becoming very, very frustrating from my point of view.

“We asked a 39-year-old (Kevin Phillips) to play 92 minutes on Saturday because we have no other strikers.

“Obviously Gary Taylor-Fletcher being injured hasn’t helped, as well as Nouha Dicko and Wes Thomas going after loans. It’s going to be crucial and it’s not one or two we need in. It doesn’t take Einstein to work out that we probably need five new faces to freshen everything up.”

While incoming players are on Pool’s minds, a number of their star players are being linked with moves away from the club.

Alex Baptiste has been the subject of a £1m bid from Leicester City, while Huddersfield and Crystal Palace are monitoring Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Ipswich are keen on goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

But the one everyone is talking about is star man Tom Ince.

Liverpool have had an offer for the winger rejected as Blackpool appear determined not to sell the 21-year-old.

But despite national newspaper claims that Ince wouldn’t play at Fulham on Saturday to avoid becoming cup-tied, Appleton insists that was never the case.

He added: “There were never any doubts about Tom Ince playing. He’s contracted to Blackpool and gets paid by Blackpool. We just need to make sure we keep his head as clear as we possibly can. Obviously the distractions will be there for everyone to see with the media speculation.

“But if we can just get him to concentrate on his football and refocus a little bit, then things will happen naturally. It possibly helps us that now he’s cup-tied. Who knows?”
