Blackpool have been linked with a move for Swindon striker Michael Smith.

It’s understood the 23-year-old could be on the wish-list of Pool boss Neil McDonald as he looks to strengthen his struggling squad ahead of the weekend’s trip to Sheffield United.

The 23-year-old was left out of the first two games of the season after being linked with a move to Barnsley, but played in Tuesday night’s draw against Port Vale.

Smith fired 18 goals for the Robins last season as they reached the League One play-off final, but is now believed to be wanting to move closer to his Newcastle home.

While transfer rumours rumble on, with Blackpool being the latest, the striker reacted in typical fashion when asked about the potential of a move.

“It’s football, it comes with the territory,” said Smith. “You get linked with everyone.”

He added: “It doesn’t bother me - I just get on with my job.”

“I’m still a Swindon player, and that is who I want to play for at the minute.

“It’s a five-hour drive but I am a professional footballer and I love doing my job and will play anywhere.”

McDonald this week revealed he’s in talks with three players at the moment, after Pool have failed to win in any of his four games in charge so far.
