Blackpool hero Ian Evatt may still be going strong at Chesterfield but he’s already looking at life after football.
The defender played a huge part in the Seasiders’ rise to the Premier League before starring for Ian Holloway’s side in the top flight.
Now 33, he’s made the step into business by getting involved with the development of a mobile phone app for football fans. Evatt is a director in the High5it business which was released on ITunes last week.
Developed by fans for fans, the app will be available as a free download and works in real-time with live match data, allowing users to get the latest news from games, interact with friends and share their appreciation of great play. And after launching he told The Gazette why he’s decided to get involved.
“At my age and the stage of my career I’m at you have to start thinking about life after football,” he said.
“This is something I’m passionate about and believe in, hopefully it will take off.
“I’ve been involved in the development of the app for the past few months and am offering the football expertise.
“I was approached by a friend of my wife who lives not far from us in Chesterfield who pitched the idea to see what we thought.
“Straight away I knew he was onto something and since then we’ve been working hard to get where we are today.
“We’ve built the app from scratch and been working on it since April.
“The idea was to get it live for the start of the season but we felt it was more important to make sure it works exactly how we like it.
“Now it’s live we’ve really started to push it.”
Evatt played more than 200 games for Blackpool between 2006-13 before leaving to captain Chesterfield to the League Two title last season.
