Martin Paterson is finally expected to be confirmed as a Blackpool player today.
The former Burnley striker agreed terms at Bloomfield Road last week and had hoped to complete the deal in time for Saturday’s trip to Gillingham.
The 28-year-old, a free agent since leaving Orlando City in the USA last month, has trained with the Seasiders for the past two weeks and scored in Wednesday’s Lancashire Senior Cup win over Morecambe.
The Gazette understands a delay over international clearance has complicated the deal as has Paterson’s agent being out of the country.
But Pool manager Neil McDonald hinted the deal could finally be sealed today. He said: “We might have a little bit of good news on Monday for you.”
Paterson, with 55 League goals to his name, will bring a good scoring record to Bloomfield Road, though injuries have slowed his progress in recent seasons.
He spent six months with Orlando in the MLS, initially on loan from Huddersfield, before seeing his contract terminated for ‘personal reasons’.
He is expected to make his Pool debut in Saturday’s home clash with Barnsley.
