Karl Oyston does plan to become more involved in the playing side of Blackpool FC but has no intention of trying to influence Jose Riga’s squad-building plans.

A week on from the Belgian’s appointment as manager, fans are eagerly awaiting Riga’s first signings.

Chairman Oyston sees his own role as one of supporting the manager in the massive rebuilding process.

Oyston told The Gazette: “I have absolutely no intention of picking the team or deciding who we sign. But I will be keeping a closer eye on how things are going generally.

“I’ll be having regular meetings with the manager and staff to make sure I give them the proper support.”

The chairman has already stated that Pool need to recruit 15-20 players and added: “Jose will identify targets and we’ll try to get the deals done jointly. It’s important he sees the players himself, talks to them to sees their values.”

Oyston has previously revealed in The Gazette that he intends holding interviews with potential signings to ensure their characters are suitable.
