Blackpool boss won't change his thinking after consecutive defeats

Ollie Turton can’t wait to test himself against Premier League opposition when Blackpool take on West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Seasiders take a short break from league affairs to welcome Sam Allardyce’s men to Bloomfield Road for their third round encounter.

The Baggies are struggling at the wrong end of the top flight table and are expected to name a much-changed side, giving Neil Critchley’s side a real opportunity to take a cup scalp.

“That’s why you play in the FA Cup, you want to play against the big teams,” Turton told The Gazette.

“I’m sure we’ll be right up for it to hopefully try and get a result out of it and get into the fourth round.

“We were disappointed to lose at Bristol Rovers last weekend but now we’ve got to dust ourselves off and go again now for the FA Cup.

“The lads are great here so we’ll go again. There’s a lot of belief among the players that we can do well and win games, so we’ll go again next week.”

Last week’s 2-1 reversal at the Memorial Stadium made it back-to-back defeats for the Seasiders, having been narrowly beaten by Shrewsbury Town in their previous outing.

Having seen off promotion contenders Peterborough United, Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town and Hull City in recent weeks, Critchley and his staff must have been banging their heads against the wall losing to two sides that have been in and around the relegation zone for much of the season.

“It is frustrating,” Turton conceded.

“But I don’t think it helped having the games called off (against Sunderland and Rochdale), but we need to make ourselves right for each and every game.

“It’s very frustrating, but we’re the only ones that can fix it so we’ll go again and try and get a result against West Brom.”

It was Blackpool’s lack of quality in the final third which let them down against Bristol Rovers last weekend, something that has been a running theme of their season.

When asked how it can be put right, the 28-year-old said: “It’s a bit of everything. It’s good we’re getting in those positions and once the quality is there, which it definitely is because we have shown it this season, but this game is just one of those occasions where the quality wasn’t there.

“I’m sure it’s just a one-off and we will put those chances and make the right decisions in future.”
