Neil Critchley pledges to rest and rotate his Blackpool players despite winning run

Blackpool’s players shouldn’t be surprised if they’re dropped from the first team – or the squad altogether – even if they’re performing well.

That’s according to head coach Neil Critchley, who has stressed the importance of utilising the entirety of his squad for Pool’s hectic schedule.

The Seasiders play Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday up until 2021, meaning players will have to be rotated at times to keep them fresh.

Critchley, whose side has won five games on the spin in all competitions, says strong characters are required.

“It’s absolutely crucial,” Pool’s head coach said. “We’ve spoken about it with the group, it’s something we’ve highlighted to them.

“Some players can find themselves in the team and out of the team on the Tuesday. They might not even be in the squad, yet they might be starting the next game.

“Putting the team first is really important and you’ve got to be professional. We’re here for the greater benefit of the team and the club and we’re all here to do a job.

“Sometimes players will play more than others but that’s football. Over the course of the season, with the amount of games we’ve got, everyone will contribute.”

Critchley’s men head to South Yorkshire tonight to take on Doncaster Rovers, looking to secure six straight wins for the first time since the ‘Perfect 10’ in 2007.

It won’t be an easy task though coming up against a Doncaster side that sits three places above them in the table.

“Like most teams in this division, they’re an extremely tough team to play against,” Critchley said of Darren Moore’s side.

“They have a clear way of playing. They like to play and open up the pitch, and play from the back and through the thirds of the pitch.

“They’ve got some good players and Darren Moore has been there over a year now, so he has developed a way of playing and they’re going to be a team that wants to be in the top half of the division pushing upwards.

“We know it’s going to be an extremely tough game again, similar to the Peterborough game on Saturday. If we’re not at our best then they’re a team that can hurt you.”

Rovers have already enjoyed some impressive results this season, beating all four of the sides that currently occupy the League One play-off spots in Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic and Lincoln City.

The Seasiders have no fresh injury concerns following Saturday’s win at Peterborough.
