The Seasiders haven’t conceded in almost eight hours of football, a run that stretches back five games since the 3-2 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

However, Pool have also struggled to score goals themselves, netting just 16 from their 16 league games.

"It's always nice not to concede goals, it gives you a chance to at least get a point from a game,” Critchley told The Gazette.

"We've now got to keep that defensive organisation and take some of the chances we're getting at the other end. If we do that, we're going to win some games.

"The way the players work together as a team and work together on the pitch, it gives us a really good platform.

"If we can marry both sides of the game together then we'll benefit from it massively.

"The defending starts from the front and the front players, like Gary (Madine) did against Oxford on Saturday, and the likes of Jerry (Yates), Keshi (Anderson), CJ (Hamilton) and Sullay (Kaikai) have done this season, all the players you'd class as attacking players, they do a real shift for the team.

"They have the understanding and willingness to do it and that's the most important thing. They get good protection from the midfield and then the backline is well organised.

"I've been really pleased with that side of the game. If we can be a little bit more potent at the other end of the pitch, because we've just been a bit nearly, a bit unlucky, then we need to change it into 'well dones', goals and pats on the back."
