Blackpool and Fleetwood will go head-to-head for the first time this season on Sunday , but it’s famous faces from the past in action.
Legends teams from both clubs play on Sunday at Thornton Cleveleys FC (2pm kick-off) in honour former Pool players Billy Ronson and Iain Hesford who both passed away recently.The likes of Andy Preece, Danny Coid, David Eyres, Ciaran Donnelly, John Murphy, Trevor Sinclair, Jamie Murphy, Eamonn O’Keefe, Brian Butler, Barry Shuttleworth, Ben Burgess, Dave Windridge, Mike Davies, Derek Spence will all take part for the Seasiders, with a number of others also showing their faces. The game has been arranged by John Cross, chairman of the BFC former players association, and he’s hoping for another good turn out.
“Last time we arranged a game it was against Burnley and 63 former players turned up, as did a thousands supporters,” he said. “It would be fantastic to match that or even better it, we are supporting a number of great causes.
“The response we’ve had from the former players has been brilliant as ever, it’s a pleasure to have arranged it.
“Hopefully the fact we are playing Fleetwood will add a few to the crowd too.”
Fleetwood will dip into their recent past for their squad with Stuart Beech, Chris Beech, Peter Ronson, Richie Allen, Lennie Reid, Jez Fitzgerald, Phil Denney, Simon Grand, Phil Robinson, Andy Bell, Micky Strachan, Mark Smith, Lee Catlow, Frank Cygal, James Barrow, Daz Hall, Steve Edwards and Jamie Nay all confirmed. Admission to the game is by way of donation and any fundson the day will be split between a number of local good causes.
