Blackpool seek signings but boss Neil Critchley says January window is so tough

The 30-year-old leaves Bloomfield Road without making a competitive appearance for the Seasiders.

Devitt was brought to the Fylde Coast in 2019 by Terry McPhillips, who took the decision to step down shortly afterwards and was replaced by Simon Grayson.

The attacking midfielder’s arrival coincided with much upheaval off the pitch, with Simon Sadler arriving as the club’s new owner after the interim board had seen the Seasiders through a transition period under the receivers.

“We can confirm Jamie Devitt’s contract with the club has been cancelled by mutual consent,” Blackpool said in a statement.

“The 30-year-old, who spent time on loan with Newport County in League Two earlier this season, is now free to pursue further opportunities elsewhere.

“The club would like to wish Jamie all the best for the future.”

Devitt spent time on loan with Bradford City last season, but his stint at Valley Parade was marred by injury.

He has spent the first half of this campaign with Newport County, scoring two goals in 11 appearances in all competitions.

But it is Barrow who have sealed Devitt’s signature on a permanent deal, tying the midfielder to an 18-month contract.

“Just want to say a massive thank you to Newport,” Devitt posted on Twitter.

“I absolutely loved my time on loan and I really hope you can go on and get promoted this season.

“An unbelievable bunch of lads and staff and thank you for letting me be part of it.”

On his move to Barrow, Devitt added: “Buzzing it’s all sorted and can’t wait to get going now.”
