Hull City 1-1 Blackpool: Jerry Yates' late strike rescues a point for the Seasid...

Jerry Yates struck nine minutes from time to rescue a point for the Seasiders, who had earlier trailed to Mallik Wilks’ strike at the start of the second half.

Blackpool’s goal came four minutes after Hull had been reduced to 10 men, Reece Burke the man to be shown a straight red after bringing Ben Woodburn down when clean through on goal.

Critchley’s side ploughed ahead in search of a late winner that would have completed a league double over the second-placed Tigers, but they were eventually forced to settle for a point.

Having taken the lead, Hull boss McCann was disappointed not to put Blackpool to the sword and claim the victory.

“We haven’t taken the three points, probably because of us,” McCann said. “It’s our own downfall really.

“We had opportunities to be 1 or 2-0 up in the first half that we didn’t take.

"The Mallik chance, Gavin Whyte’s ball across the box we didn’t get on the end of, (Jacob) Greavesy’s header. I thought we were in control of everything we were doing.

“And then it was a moment of madness – one moment of madness. It was unlike us.

“A sloppy bit of play in the middle of the pitch – Richie Smallwood’s played it behind Reece, he’s tried to recover, red card.

“Even still, we still shouldn’t concede off the corner. It’s really disappointing and poor from us. We have to learn from that.

“It’s a cheap goal to concede. You still shouldn’t concede that goal with eight or nine men on the pitch, never mind 10.

“We’re frustrated with that.”

McCann was also unhappy with the manner in which his side conceded from a set piece, as Gary Madine drilled a corner back into the dangerzone for Yates to steer home.

“We need to get back to work on the training ground and work even harder on defending set-plays,” “McCann admitted.

“That’s three games now we’ve conceded from set-plays: Sunderland, we conceded from one; Fleetwood, we’ve conceded from a short free-kick; and today.

“It’s cost us points in the last two league games.

“We’re looking really good in terms of our shape, our organisation, our threat. Yes, we could score more goals and take more of our chances.

“But you only need one goal to win a game if you don’t concede and we need to get better at defending set-plays.”
